I’ve been walking around and noticing that I’m doing things for the last time until after the race. Today was the last time I’ll be in NY for a weekend before the race. The last time I’ll see certain people. Next time I bump into them I’ll either be under311 man… or not.
Tonight I did 2 miles of sprinting in the park. The pain I’ve been having in my legs has subsided, but even after this short distance they were getting sore. But as I said last week – pain is temporary! Now it’s all down to getting to the race in one piece, as healthy as I possibly can. I’ve been acutely aware of the weather so I can dress properly when I go outside (don’t want to get sick!).
A good number of people have sent in notes with their donations. Short letters of encouragement, a quote, or just “good luck!” An old friend asked (and you’re not the first!) that if I don’t do under 3:11, if they get their donation back. I think he was joking. Nonetheless, the answer is… NO! Yesterday I got this my friend Mark S.
“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”
I will continue to post some moving emails/letters I’ve received that are related to the run. An updated tally of donations will be posted in a few days. 7 days to go till Philly. 7 more movies to watch. 7 more minutes till my pasta is finished cooking!
“According to Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power! Well that football field out there tonight, that’s our universe. Let’s rule it like Titans!!!”
